Killer bills make child poverty history - abolish user fees

Il documento di Save the Children prende in considerazione 24 stati africani, 20 dei quali impongono ticket sui servizi sanitari e chiede ai leader del G8 che intraprendano azioni affinché l’accesso alle cure sanitarie sia gratuito per tutti. La ricerca riassunta in questo briefing mostra che i costi dei servizi sanitari sono insostenibili per molti bambini e le loro famiglie, ma dimostra anche che se fossero abolite le spese mediche, e coprendo i costi relativamente modesti 
dell'abolizione si salverebbero immediatamente quasi un quarto di milione di bambini sotto i cinque anni. E' giunto il momento che il G8 dimostri che gli Obiettivi di Sviluppo del Millennio non sono solo vuota retorica e renda il 2005 un anno di svolta per far divenire la povertà infantile un ricordo.

Save the Children's report looks at 24 African states, 20 of which impose health service fees, and calls on G8 leaders to take action to ensure that access to health care is free for all. Research summarised in this briefing shows the unbearable cost of health services for many children and their families. It shows that abolishing user fees and covering the relatively small cost of abolition would immediately save nearly a quarter of a million children under five. Now is the time for the G8 to demonstrate that the MDGs are not just empty rhetoric, and make 2005 a breakthrough year for making child poverty history.
